The best halloween movie to watch on halloween?
This list of the best Halloween horror movies includes classics (Psycho), mysteries (Sixth Sense), or pick a children’s Halloween classics without scaring them and good to watch with family (It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown), with Halloween comedies (Beetlejuice).
We’ve also compiled a list of 5 top films to give you the shivers this Halloween.
To decide what are the best Halloween movies we must first come up with some certain criteria. Certainly they must be scary movies. that should be an element of the macabre. Here are my top 5 Halloween movies and definition why you should pick one.
5. Halloween (2007)
How can you pick the top five Halloween movies without including Halloween on the list. 2007 version. Michael Myers has become a horror legend since previous Halloween movie in 1978, Sixteen years ago, a ten year old boy called Michael Myers brutally, emotionless Michael Myers kills his step father, his elder sister and her boyfriend. Sixteen years later, he escapes from the mental institution and makes his way back to his hometown intent on a murderous rampage pursued by Dr Sam Loomis who is Michael’s doctor and the only one who knows Michael’s true evil. Elsewhere a shy teenager by the name of Laurie Strode is babysitting on the night Michael comes home.
4. Dark Water (2005)
Dahlia Williams and her daughter Cecelia move into a rundown apartment on New York’s Roosevelt Island. Dahlia Williams is currently in midst of divorce proceedings since she and her daughter started to live there, there are mysterious occurrences and there is a constant drip from the ceiling in her daughter’s bedroom. There are also the noises coming from the apartment directly above hers, though it would appear to be vacant. The suspense using music and imagery, Rear Window all stick out in my mind as some of the best ever.
3.The Shining (1980)
Adaptation of Stephen King’s novel most possibly be one of the scariest films of all time. Based in an isolated hotel where Jack Nicholson and his family moved in as caretakers for the winter season. What made fuss is a ghostly encounter with a former hotel custodian who murdered his wife and two daughters. Beware: for some reason I found this movie much more disturbing than the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes and other movies which are meant to terrorize us.
2. Friday the 13th. (1980)
This one is especially scary for those of us who like camping or cottaging. The thought that some nut is out there in a hockey mask waiting for us in the dark is what makes campfire stories so compelling.
1. The Exorcist (1973)
Everyone has their favorites and reasons why. horror movies that you watched as a young child have more of an effect on you than ones watched as an adult. watched this 1973’s “The Exorcist”, The Exorcist was probably the bloodcurdling, scariest movie ever made when you watch the brutal depiction of a 12-year-old girl possessed by an evil spirit. Scenes from it still sick in my mind up until now it still creep me out.
for upcoming I would suggest watching Saw V, and Friday the 13th (2009) , Saw v will released at October 24th in theater, and new Friday the 13th will release at 13 February 2009. Screaming men and women who venture down dark stairwells are best part of a must see at Halloween. So, turn the lights off, sink into a blanket on the sofa, and munch on popcorn and chocolate while you watch a scary movie - it’s one of the best ways to de-stress. Plus, getting scared with your family and friends can strengthen your relationship.
so pick up some scary movies and watch them with friends. Happy Halloween !

I don’t watch many movies, but I watch the good ones over and over and over. Just like books
I like your list, and no you are not the only one who like Halloween 3. I thought it was a really good movie and just gets flamed because it departed from the MM story line. I can only watch the 1982 version of The Thing when its snowing. Something about looking out the window and seeing a heavy snow….I getting very suspicious of my family….The only one I don’t really like is Darkness falls. The beginning had my expectations so high for that movie….then it just kind of deflated IMHO. Well Happy Halloween season.
Currently I’m in the process of putting my play list together. I usually start the movie festivities around now. I start with movies like Helter Skelter, Plan 9 from outer space, and Ed Wood. Then I work my way into the classics the closer it gets to Halloween. I will add my full play list, including ones for the kiddies as soon as I sort it out.
Cheers
I’m not a fan of really scary/horror movies, so _It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!_ is my choice.
The worst movie for me is “We Were Soldiers Once and Young” That movie breaks my heart every time I watch it. Not only does it show the battle side of the story but it shows you the wives sitting there at home dreading the telegram and all of them supporting each other. It was a very well rounded movie but it is just something entirely to emotional to watch when my husband is gone. If fact I’ve only watched it the one time because I just don’t like putting myself through that kind of emotional roller coaster. So if you’ve never seen it do yourself a favor and wait until your man comes home to watch it with him.
You know, I can’t think of any good movies at the moment(that I don’t have)that I want to see this holiday season, but I am hoping for at least 2 weeks of wall-to-wall horror and suspense. The entire month of Oct. ‘06 was nothing but classic great horror movies all over cable channels, but Oct. ‘07 was really, really ‘dry’ and lacking. Here’s hoping for a brutal, scary movie month!!!
When I was a kid, things were different. Halloween had an entirely different meaning. But, now, satan has certainly taken over the events related to Halloween…and not just to the day itself.
My son will not dress in costume…he will not go trick or treating, he will not go to a church event on that night…unless it is our regular night of worship.
Romans 12 is clear…and you are dead on target…no matter what anyone, including family, says!
Stick to your beliefs!
This is spooky fare, but only mildly so. Little kids can watch it without having nightmares, and should come away from it both entertained and enlightened. A wonderful addition for your Halloween traditions.
We (ie my family) are in the UK and we hate Halloween too. Not for specifically religious reasons: the slew of consumerist tat, and the celebration of gore. Christmas is even worse (for tat), but at least Christmas is celebrating something worthwhile.
The article you link to is very interesting. I didn’t know about Oct 31st 1517 and Martin Luther. That really is worth celebrating. I shall certainly be telling everyone about it (I’ll mention it at my son’s school. Now there’s an idea!).
Its good to see most people enthusiasm with this year Halloween
Well, it doesn’t snow here in Southern CA, so I live vicariously through my horror movies! The first time I watched Halloween 3 was in London, in a hotel room, in German, and my husband & I were dying, it was the funniest thing we’d ever seen. You haven’t lived till you’ve heard that song in German-hilarious. Yeah, I can see how Darkness Falls isn’t really THAT great, it’s just fluffy entertainment for me. I don’t really have very high standards when it comes to horror movies, I like em all.

I am not clear if I totally understand the full thought pattern behind this.

I love each and every scary movie for a different reason. They are “fluff” for me too! Although, I will pick zombies over anything. To the Mr. Moon and Sir Magoo who got all religious - at least you got to enjoy your childhood! Now you are going to take that away from your children? Satan has always been around. When did you figure it out? Holidays are what you make of them. Christ wasn’t born on Christmas either. (Sorry to burst your bubble) Enjoy and have a good time - life is what you make of it.
